Google reviews & how to get more!

How We Turned 1 Google Review Into 38 in Two Weeks (And How You Can Do It Too)

What if one simple email could turn your happy clients into dozens of new Google reviews?

That’s exactly what happened when we helped one of our clients go from just 1 Google review to 38 in two weeks, with a 24% conversion rate.

No paid ads. No complicated marketing strategy. No incentives. We simply asked the right people, made it really easy for them to leave a review and followed up with the people who missed the first email.

And it’s something you can do in your business too.

Why we focused on Google reviews

Our client, Kate from Simply Seven, already had plenty of happy clients. She had years of experience, strong client relationships and people who regularly recommended her.

But her Google Business Profile had just one review.

That meant someone discovering her business for the first time couldn't see the brilliant reputation she had already built. Think about your own behaviour. If you’re comparing two businesses and one has barely any reviews while the other has dozens of happy customers sharing their experiences, which one are you more likely to trust? We wanted Kate’s Google profile to reflect what her existing clients already knew.

What we did

The strategy was incredibly simple. We created a branded email asking Kate’s existing clients if they would take a couple of minutes to leave her a Google review.

We explained why their feedback mattered and, importantly, included a direct link to leave the review. Then we sent it!

One week later, we resent the email to the people who hadn’t opened the first one.

Within two weeks, Kate had gone from 1 Google review to 38, with around 24% of recipients going on to leave a review. Sometimes the simplest marketing works.

How to create and run a Google reviews marketing project yourself...

Want to try it yourself? Here’s the process we used.

1. Get your direct Google review link

Don't ask clients to search for your business and work out where to leave a review.

Get your direct review link from your Google Business Profile so they can click and go straight to the right place.

Make it as easy as possible.

2. Choose who you're going to ask

Start with people who have genuinely experienced your service.

Existing clients, previous clients, repeat customers and anyone who has already given you lovely feedback are a great place to start.

You may already have dozens of potential reviews sitting in your client list.

3. Write a simple, personal email

You don't need to overcomplicate it.

Tell them you’d love their feedback, briefly explain why Google reviews make a difference to your business and give them the direct link.

Most importantly, make it sound like you.

A genuine message is going to feel much more natural than a generic “we value your feedback” email.

4. Make the link obvious

Don't hide your review link halfway through a paragraph.

Use a clear button or call to action such as “Leave us a Google review”.

Your client is taking time out of their day to help you, so make the process as quick and easy as possible.

5. Don't forget the follow up

This made a big difference to our campaign.

One week after sending the original email, we resent it to the people who hadn’t opened it.

People are busy... emails get missed. A follow up isn't necessarily pestering someone. Sometimes it simply gives them another chance to see something they missed the first time.
